How does it work?

It's not made up as we go, rather not:

  1. First there's the initial appointment booking. You can come to the workshop, but we prefer by phone (feel free to give us details in advance). We'll note down: first name, last name, bike brand and type and the work to-be.
  2. On the day, when the bike comes to the workshop, we carry out an M-check on the bike, ask you a few questions about its service history, and draw up a quote. You decide whether to accept the work.
    (Some complex or written quotes are charged 40 CHF up front, whether or not the work is accepted.)
  3. Once the work is done, usually same-day, we contact you by WhatsApp or SMS with the final amount. You come to pick up the bike within 2 days of the appointment at the latest, otherwise a fee of 5 CHF/business day applies. Payment is preferably in cash, otherwise by card or Twint.

The quoted amount will always be announced 30% higher than expected; that's our margin of error.

Additional explanations

When we look at a bike, we check the main wear points: pads, brake shoes, discs, chain, cassette, chainrings, rim profiles, hubs, headset… All of these are compared against the manufacturers' limits. Generally, a quote is made up of:

  • The inspection/service part (60-120 CHF, may be reduced depending on the repairs)
  • Labor for the repairs/replacements carried out
  • Parts billed

A regularly maintained bike will often generate more labor as a result of the inspection. Sometimes we don't charge for the inspection, because some bikes have such a maintenance debt that almost everything ends up replaced and checked anyway. Generally, a bike can be kept in good condition for an average of 350 CHF/year, the amount varying depending on the type of use and type of bike. Someone racking up big mileage on an electric cargo bike should expect a higher amount.
